This is really a question for the the Unity developers I think. I had
a look around and I couldn't find any way to do this, so it may not be
possible.
As a last resort, you could copy the icon you prefer over the one that
is installed by FreeGuide. If you installed from the repository or
a .deb file I think that will be here:
/usr/share/pixmaps/freeguide.png
You can copy your icon over the top by doing something like this in a
terminal window:
wget http://icons.iconarchive.com/icons/robsonbillponte/cartoon/128/TV-icon.png
sudo mv TV-icon.png /usr/share/pixmaps/freeguide.png
This is kind of evil, but should work. Note it will be overwritten if
you upgrade freeguide.
