This is as good a place as any to say - where did all the time go? We've nearly had 1/6 of the new year go past already, and I don't feel I've really adjusted to it. Surely we were just 'celebrating' (moaning in) the New Year not long ago? And I still haven't got round to posting comments on Christmas '03! Maybe I'm just getting old :-)

Moaning in the New Year! That's funny.

I always like to moan in half term because smug teachers get it off, as it were.

Well, it makes up for all their evenings and weekends.

As for New Year's eve, I spent it in a vicarage in St Helens (built next to a land-fill site), with friends of a friend. Everyone sat around catching up with how each other's lives were going - mostly not too great. Dead-end jobs and all that. And just before midnight, the host asked how our last year had been. "Terrible", I said.

I wonder how Jesus' 20s went. Was being a joiner interesting, or dull, I wonder?

Did he have friends? What did people think of him?

Unregistered User Presumably he fancied some of the young women of his town, too. Must have been sad for him to *know* he'd never marry (assuming he did know that) - perhaps worse than our anxiety when we're single that we *may* not find someone.

That's similar to what occurred to me - did he have his mother nagging him about why he still wasn't married and settled down - or did she have some understanding that this was part of his special calling? At least we know his family thought he was a religious nutcase (Mark 3:21), so that's something I can relate to.

I can't imagine that being a joiner could be as boring as my job. It must give you some sense of achievement and contact with other human beings.

As for anxiety that we may not find someone, I know I won't find someone. (I don't really mean that, I only say it because everyone I know who's said that has been proved wrong, so it might even work for me.)

Actually, I often think it'd be easier to live with knowing I'm going to be single for ever, than not knowing.

Anyway, it's time for me to say Merry Christmas again. I'm sitting here wasting time till my landlady and her husband get back from a party as I've locked myself out. So much for an early night. Hope everyone has a good one and that it means something to you.

I managed to get back to the UK with my girlfriend for two weeks (now living in Cairo) to see both sets of family. Was really nice to be back. Had a holiday in Sharm to get over the holiday once we got back. Just started second week back atv work and feels like I never left :(

Oh well...
