I haven't had my aromatherapy massage for 2 weeks now and I'm suffering a strong relapse into my RSI symptoms.

Time for someone somewhere to do some clinical trials and get some proper statistics on both massage and the use of essential oils (plus the effect of the general pampering you receive).

If it's the placebo effect, get me some more of that placebo.

I'm going this morning - wish me luck.

All the best with this! What do they do? Really interesting - I have no idea whether it's placebo or has a direct effect; what do you reckon as someone with first hand experience?

The massage is just a massage - helps to loosen muscles which restrict blood flow which appears to be the underlying cause of the pain.

The oil used in the massage contains several essential oils which are believed to have certain effects - in my case the most important one is the one that is supposed to reduce muscle inflamation. Can't remember which one.

I also rub these oils into myself every day.

It appears to work. I imagine the massage alone must be very helpful, but I can easily believe that the oils help too.

The name aromatherapy is outdated really - it's just the use of some plant-derived drugs that are not necessarily clinically proven but are believed to have certain effects.

I have not been offered any extras, unless you include the left-over oil that she didn't use during the massage.
